Autumnals

Switching things up a bit this month - I've put my top 10 songs from this post into two YouTube playlists. You can choose between the A-Side or the B-Side mix - it'll play through the majority of the tracks from whichever side you pick (I wont ever put in more than two songs by one artist I've posted about) - I hope you like!

A-side (Play All)

B-Side (Play All)

Side A

Calibre - Even If
Calibre is (according to his Last.fm page) the first exclusively Irish DnB artist. I'm not sure how that can be possible...but in any case, this guy makes some incredible tracks. Even If is brilliant, as is Broken (featuring the same vocalist) - he's also done a remix of T.E.E.D.'s Garden that I've not been able to stop listening to since I first heard it.

Fred V & Grafix - Daddy (Feat. Emili Sande) 40 min mix for DADA DnBTV, Find A Way
Joker - My Trance Girl, Tron, Purple CityOn My Mind Stuck In The System

Onra & Quetzal - Gotta Have It
I posted a track from Onra (French/Vietnamese DJ) last month, but I went back and listened to a bunch more tracks. If you're a fan of Gotta Have It or Relax In Mui, then listen to The Anthem, On A Sunny Day, I Wanna Go Back, High Hopes and No Matter What.

WZRD (Kid Cudi & Dot Da Genius) - Teleport 2 Me
Katalyst - Dreaming of You

Prince - Live at the Aladdin
Impossibly funky live performance from Prince and his band (which I have stolen from a funky bass playing gent I went to school with). I'm sorry Huw, IT WAS JUST TOO DAMN FUNKY.

Roots Manuva vs The Barkeys - Too Hot to Witness <-----SO FUNKY
Chic - Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love  <------SUPER FUNKY

Azealia Banks - 212 Ft. Lazy Jay
The NME don't much right these days, but the girl is definitely cool - apparently she's the new shit, boo, young Rapunzel.

Modeselektor - Berlin (Feat Miss Platnum)
The Notorious B.I.G. - Everyday Struggle (Frogs In Socks BIG Bootleg)

The Roots - What They Do
When the Roots aren't calling Michele Bachmann a Lying Ass Bitch through Fallon intro music, they make incredible songs of their own. They just released their new album Undun (a hip hop odyssey inspired by a Sufjan Stevens song) - the general consensus is that it's shit crazy ridiculous good. You can stream the whole thing right now via NPR Music (most likely for a limited time only). This track from 1996 was one of their first hits, they're still kicking ass 15 years later. Questlove recently predicted a riot ("Omg, drivin down south st near #ows. Something bout to go down yo, swear I counted 1000 riot gear cops bout to pull a sneak attack #carefulyall.") and Black Thought may or may not be one of the best rappers OF ALL TIME.

Black Star (Mos Def/Yasiin Bay & Talib Kweli) - Fix Up, You Already Knew
B.O.B - Boom Bap (Feat T.I. & Mos Def)
Louque - Still In Waiting, Art, Kenny The Jet

Side B

Yo Yo Ma & Lil Buck - Live
This video is a few months old, but it's so good I want to make sure everyone has seen it - an incredible collaborative performance between Yo Yo Ma and Lil Buck (organised by Spike Jonze).

Nujabes - Counting StarsKumomiAruarian DanceShino's ThemeSpiritual State (Feat. Uyama Hiroto)
ROSTAM - Wood

Nina Simone - Feelings
I don't think I'll ever find a Nina Simone song I love more than her performance of 'Feelings' at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Saying that though, this cover of 'Suzanne' is pretty damn good...likewise with My Baby Just Cares For Me, Ain't Got No, I Got Life (live), Backlash Blues, If You Knew and Sinnerman. I would be quite willing to give up body parts if I could go back in time to see Nina Simone play in her prime.

John Coltrane - In A Sentimental Mood, Slow Dance

Lord Huron - She Lit A Fire (Rollo & Grady Sessions)
I posted about Lord Huron a few months back, but they've recently done a couple of live sessions organized by the  blog Rollo & Grady. The tracks Man Who Lives Forever and The Stranger (recorded at the same sessions) are similarly brilliant.

Alexi Murdoch - Song For You
Bert Jansch - Needle Of DeathMoonshine

King Charles - Ivory Road (Black Cab Session)
Pulled up dreads and a thick gents moustache...but with the talent to match.

The Horrors - Best Thing I Never Had (Beyonce Cover)
Youth Lagoon - 17

Yuna - Coffee
A lovely Malaysian girl with an incredible voice.

Robyn - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
Charlene Soraia - Lightyears Wherever You Will Go

Side A

El Guincho - Bombay
**WARNING** THIS VIDEO CONTAINS BOOBS, CRAZY SPANIARDS AND INSANELY CATCHY MUSIC.

EL GUINCHO | Bombay from MGdM | Marc Gómez del Moral on Vimeo.

Chemo - The Cause And The Cure (Feat. Jareth)
Stunning swaggering vocals from Jareth matched with some quality production from Chemo - a London based producer. This track is from Chemo's most recent album release (containing a selection of his work produced between 2007 and 2011) The Stomach of the Mountain.

Beldina - Here We Go
Childish Gambino Feat Beldina - Not Going Back

Zeds Dead - Coffee Break
Zeds Dead are a DJ duo made up of two fellas called DC and Hooks - they make dance-inducing dubstep tunes.
Zeds Dead - Coffee Break by zedsdead
 White Satin by zedsdead
Zeds Dead - 1975 by zedsdead

Frank Ocean - Thinking About You
Alongside Tyler, Earl and Hodgy Beats - Frank Ocean is another OFWGKTA member currently on the highway heading for the big time. This track is my personal favourite from what he's released so far, closely followed by Novacane, There Will Be Tears, Strawberry Swing and Portishead's remix of Swim Good. You might also recognise Frank Ocean from his work on Watch the Throne - No Church In The Wild is one of the few good tracks on that album.

Tyler the Creator (Feat. Frank Ocean) - She
Drake - Marvin's Room, Headlines
Kendrick Lamar - LOOK OUT FOR DETOX

Joe Goddard Feat. Valentina - Gabriel
Jo Goddard has been a busy boy DJing all over the world, working on his solo album and of course being one quarter of Hot Chip. This debut single from his new album is ace.

Jai Paul - Flip Out
Little Dragon - Ritual UnionCrystalfilm
Florence and the Machine - You've Got The Love (Revolvr Remix)

Side B

Lana Del Rey - Videogames
Lana Del Rey is a 40's style-inspired singer with a powerfully sultry voice. Since the release of Videogames two months ago on Youtube, her video has accumulated almost 1.5 millions views. Her authenticity as a bonafide internet indie sensation has been questioned. However, regardless of any clever industry marketing behind her success, Videogames is a killer song - it's well worth a listen.

Florence And The Machine - Shake It Out

Tyler Ramsey - The Valley Wind
Tyler Ramsey is the lead singer and guitarist of the very successful Seattle group, Band of Horses. This tune is the title track is from his third album The Valley Wind. I haven't listened to the rest of the album (aside from the similarly lovely The Nightbird), but after listening to this track over and over again I think I better have a listen of the whole album.

Ducky - Killing Time

Flying Lotus - MMMhMMM (Feat Thundercat)
Flying Lotus is incredible. This collaboration with Thundercat is massively addictive (and it has a great video). Similarly, his recent work with Thom York is incredible (Laugh and the World Laughs With You). If you're a fan of this track and you're not familiar with Flying Lotus's other stuff, have a listen to Massage Situation, Do The Astral Plane, Auntie's Lock and Robo Tussin (Feat. Lil Wayne).

Wait What - It Ain't Hard To Echo (Nas vs Washed Out)
Wait What have produced a pretty brilliant mash-up album of Nas & Washed Out - these are my personal favourites from the album:
wait what - it aint hard to echo [nas vs washed out] by wait what
wait what - we will dedicate [nas vs washed out] by wait what

Onra - Relax In Mui Ne
This song is ridiculous, I can't stop listening to it. This french fella is responsible for this bit of musical madness.

August Passed/Past

Side A

King Most - San Francisco To Tokyo
A seriously breezy funky instrumental from King Most, accompanied by a brilliant CGI/fast filmed cityscape video. A word of warning though, by playing this track you may be in serious danger of getting your groove on while alone in your room. Apparently Barack Obama is a fan of King Most - undoubtedly he does a little dance around the oval office every time he hears this track.

Secret Cities - The Park
Drake - Marvin's Room, Headlines

DJ Shadow Feat. Afrikan Boy - I'm Excited
The man behind Entroducing is back with a new album called 'The Less You Know, The Better'. This track with Afrikan Boy (of One Day I Went To Lidl fame) stuck around in my head for days. If you want a taste of some of DJ Shadow's older stuff, Building Steam With a Grain of Salt is a good place to start.
DJ Shadow Ft. Afrikan Boy - I'm Excited from Ian Pons Jewell on Vimeo.
The Horrors - You SaidStill Life
Bastille - Bumpin'

Akala - Fire In The Booth (Live on Radio 1xtra)
An epic 7 minutes and 50 seconds of poetry, followed by 52 seconds of the DJ putting out the fire in the booth with his imaginary fire extinguisher...
Hudson Mohawke vs Aaliyah - Somebody

Sonnymoon - Yes (Beyonce Cover)
Everyone knows by now that Beyonce ruled this summer. She killed Glastonbury, she runs the world, she sings like a goddess in the dressing room and she's preggers. She's also gone and got herself the best song on her hubby and Kanye's album. Instead of just posting Lift Off (which I could perfectly justify), I have this cover of Beyonce's Yes and Drake's Houstanatlantavegas by Sonnymoon - a duo from Massachusetts.  Anna Wise (singer of Sonnymoon) has also done a great collaboration with CunninLynguists on 'Looking Back' which is worth worth checking out.

MC Xander - Sick Of The Lies
Courtesy of DJ Muir, I have this pretty incredible mix of beatboxing, vocal sampling, rapping and singing from MC Xander.
Dub FX - Love SomeoneFlow
Woodnote - Get DownWolf
Diamond Messages - Liquid Summer

Side B

Michael Kiwanuka - Tell Me A Tale
Michael Kiwanuka is seriously talented 23 year old soloist from London- he plays lovely soulful motown-esque tunes.
Little Scout - We Are Walking Out

Active Child & How To Dress Well - Playing House
Active child has an incredible voice and plays a mean harp. This track and Hanging On are two highlights from his debut album. My only issue is that the video is just a little bit OTT on the emotional hand grasping...
Mumford & Sons - Home/Untitled (Live On KBCO)
Laura Marling - Blues Run The Game

Chromeo - When The Night Falls (Feat. Mayer Hawthorne)
I was going to post the song 'Virus' by Bjork and write about how amazing her app album is...but her record label has erased all her videos off of Youtube/Soundcloud/Hype Machine...so I can't write about her. FOOLS. As a replacement I have this pretty brilliant cover of Chromeo's When The Night Falls by Mayer Hawthorne.
Bon Iver & James Blake - Fall Creek Boys Choir

Moleman - Imagine
If you love yourself a bit of liquid DnB, it's well worth subscribing to Liquicity on the youtubes. If you enjoy this track you'll probably be a fan of Bachelors of Science - they've produced a whole truck load of lovely liquidy beats.

Small Hands - Hip Hatchet
Some lovely deep voiced vocals and folky guitar music from Hip Hatchet - a duo from Portland, Oregon. If you like this song you can listen to the rest of their album on their bandcamp page.

Erik Satie - Gymnopedies No. 1
Erik Satie was a French composer and pianist living in the late 19th century/early 20th century. His Gymnopedies series was some of his most famous (and brilliant) work. If you like this, Gymnopedies No. 3 is similarly beautiful.

Side A

SBTRKT - Something Goes Right
SBTRKT is a London based DJ/producer with a passion for wearing tribal inspired masks and creating catchy tunes. Something Goes Right is brilliant, the same goes for PharaohsNever Never and Wildfire.

Cinematic - Structure
This track was described as A TUNE YOU SHOULD FILE UNDER "SMASHER" by Mistajam. Just a small word of advice - stop requesting Tetris, he's not going to play it.

Love In This Club - Usher (MSTRKRFT Remix)
The Strokes - Call Me Back (Erol Sabadosh Remix)

Gold Panda - MPB
I posted some Gold Panda last month...but I don't care because THIS TRACK HAS SO MUCH XYLOPHONE.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs Continued (Christian TV Remix)
Radiohead - Little By Little (Caribou Remix)
Gold Panda - Marriage (In Heaven Remix)

Hudson Mohawke - Rising Five, Freek and FUSE
Hudson Mohawk is a DJ/Producer from Glasgow who has been DJing all his life. At age 15 he was the youngest ever finalist at the DMC World DJ Championships, it seems likely that he probably started DJing while still in the womb. More recently his talents have been spotted abroad and he's been working on a mixtape with Chris Brown.
Hudson Mohawke - Rising 5 by Lovebox Official
Hudson Mohawke - Freek by Hudson Mohawke
Hudson Mohawke - FUSE by SimR

DJ Hype, Nicky Blackmarket, MC Fearless, Shabba D & Skibadee  - One Nation
A whole load of legends were at One Nation in 07.

Emeli Sande - Heaven
Wiley Feat Emeli Sande & Shy FX - Never Be Your Woman

Side B

Amy Winehouse - Love is a Losing Game
R.I.P. Amy.

Lucy Rose - First
This girl has a lovely voice. This track and Middle of the Bed are her two really stand-out tracks so far, hopefully she'll be releasing her debut album sometime soon. I would like to dedicate this song to my beautiful Zambian wife, Laffonda - the light of my life. MAY YOUR LIGHT SHINE FOREVER LAFFONDA!!
Best Coast - Gone Again

Youth Lagoon - Montana
Youth Lagoon is a young lad called Trever Powers who hails from the city of Boise in Ohio. He makes dreamy floaty songs like Cannons and July.

The Tallest Man on Earth - Weather of a Killing Kind
The Tallest Man on Earth is a very talented Swedish folky fella with a very unique voice. Listening to The Wild Hunt, The King of Spain and Where Do My Bluebird Fly might convince you of his talent.

J. Irvin Dally - Sun Room
I have to say, this video is pretty shit. HOWEVER, the music is great so just click play and do something else while you listen to the pretty sounds of J. Irvin Dally.

"Sun Room" by J. Irvin Dally from Impose on Vimeo.

Sacred Animals - Welcome Home

May Be This

Side A

Zoo Kid - Out Getting Ribs
Zoo Kid is Archy Marshall, a 16 year old skinny ginger kid from London. He has a serious sneer, a ginger mohawk and a unique sound - Ocean Bed is another bit of brilliance.
Open Mike Eagle - Nightmares

A nicely laid-back rap with hypnotic backing vocals and a lazy beat.

Gold Panda - Marriage (Star Slinger Remix)
Starting to think Star Slinger is incapable of making bad songs - this Gold Panda remix is incredible.
Gold Panda - YouMarriage
Lil B vs Gold Panda (The Hood Internet) - Real You
Germany Germany - Take Me Home
Gorillaz - Doncamatic

Shinichi Osawa - Sylkill
Shinichi Osawa is (according to earmilk) a 'Japanese Electropop God'. Not sure whether I would describe him as a deity, but he's been making music a helluvalongtime and the guy does make some pretty crazy electropop tunes.

Keegan DeWitt - Two Hearts
A cute song and a cute video. I am clearly a big girls blouse.
Matt Pond - Love To Get Used
Mother Mother - Simple Simple
My Morning Jacket - Circuital

Side B

Keaton Henson - Sarah Minor
Keaton Henson's record label were kind enough to send me over his album to have a listen of. Sarah Minor is definitely my favourite track from the album, but Charon was another lovely one (it also has a very sad video about a suicidal puppet).
Big Scary - Gem in the Granite

Bibio - Lovers Carvings

Bibio - St. Christopher
Gardens and Villas - Black Hills
Alpine - Too Safe

Emiliana Torrini - Birds
A lady from Iceland with a lovely voice.
Bodies of Water - Open Rhythms

Lay Low - By and By
Another lady from Iceland with a lovely voice! Nice little song with a freaky little video.

Camera Obscura - Honey in the Sun

Nils Frahm - Ambre

Dharohar Project (with Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling) - To Darkness, Meheni Rachi, Anmol Rishtey
Balun - El Medio Contenido
