August Passed/Past

Side A

King Most - San Francisco To Tokyo
A seriously breezy funky instrumental from King Most, accompanied by a brilliant CGI/fast filmed cityscape video. A word of warning though, by playing this track you may be in serious danger of getting your groove on while alone in your room. Apparently Barack Obama is a fan of King Most - undoubtedly he does a little dance around the oval office every time he hears this track.

Secret Cities - The Park
Drake - Marvin's Room, Headlines

DJ Shadow Feat. Afrikan Boy - I'm Excited
The man behind Entroducing is back with a new album called 'The Less You Know, The Better'. This track with Afrikan Boy (of One Day I Went To Lidl fame) stuck around in my head for days. If you want a taste of some of DJ Shadow's older stuff, Building Steam With a Grain of Salt is a good place to start.
DJ Shadow Ft. Afrikan Boy - I'm Excited from Ian Pons Jewell on Vimeo.
The Horrors - You SaidStill Life
Bastille - Bumpin'

Akala - Fire In The Booth (Live on Radio 1xtra)
An epic 7 minutes and 50 seconds of poetry, followed by 52 seconds of the DJ putting out the fire in the booth with his imaginary fire extinguisher...
Hudson Mohawke vs Aaliyah - Somebody

Sonnymoon - Yes (Beyonce Cover)
Everyone knows by now that Beyonce ruled this summer. She killed Glastonbury, she runs the world, she sings like a goddess in the dressing room and she's preggers. She's also gone and got herself the best song on her hubby and Kanye's album. Instead of just posting Lift Off (which I could perfectly justify), I have this cover of Beyonce's Yes and Drake's Houstanatlantavegas by Sonnymoon - a duo from Massachusetts.  Anna Wise (singer of Sonnymoon) has also done a great collaboration with CunninLynguists on 'Looking Back' which is worth worth checking out.

MC Xander - Sick Of The Lies
Courtesy of DJ Muir, I have this pretty incredible mix of beatboxing, vocal sampling, rapping and singing from MC Xander.
Dub FX - Love SomeoneFlow
Woodnote - Get DownWolf
Diamond Messages - Liquid Summer

Side B

Michael Kiwanuka - Tell Me A Tale
Michael Kiwanuka is seriously talented 23 year old soloist from London- he plays lovely soulful motown-esque tunes.
Little Scout - We Are Walking Out

Active Child & How To Dress Well - Playing House
Active child has an incredible voice and plays a mean harp. This track and Hanging On are two highlights from his debut album. My only issue is that the video is just a little bit OTT on the emotional hand grasping...
Mumford & Sons - Home/Untitled (Live On KBCO)
Laura Marling - Blues Run The Game

Chromeo - When The Night Falls (Feat. Mayer Hawthorne)
I was going to post the song 'Virus' by Bjork and write about how amazing her app album is...but her record label has erased all her videos off of Youtube/Soundcloud/Hype Machine...so I can't write about her. FOOLS. As a replacement I have this pretty brilliant cover of Chromeo's When The Night Falls by Mayer Hawthorne.
Bon Iver & James Blake - Fall Creek Boys Choir

Moleman - Imagine
If you love yourself a bit of liquid DnB, it's well worth subscribing to Liquicity on the youtubes. If you enjoy this track you'll probably be a fan of Bachelors of Science - they've produced a whole truck load of lovely liquidy beats.

Small Hands - Hip Hatchet
Some lovely deep voiced vocals and folky guitar music from Hip Hatchet - a duo from Portland, Oregon. If you like this song you can listen to the rest of their album on their bandcamp page.

Erik Satie - Gymnopedies No. 1
Erik Satie was a French composer and pianist living in the late 19th century/early 20th century. His Gymnopedies series was some of his most famous (and brilliant) work. If you like this, Gymnopedies No. 3 is similarly beautiful.
